harper quincy was born on halloween. an omen if there ever was one, because the only thing that would be evident throughout harper's life was how abnormal it was. from a young age, harper had always felt she was different. she was chatty, she loved books, she had a single mother who often chose men over her. harper threw herself into as many activities as she could. book clubs, gymnastics, practicing wicca, learning yoga. in the town of norfolk, she had a rather tame childhood. until her mother up and married some rich guy, and he moved harper and her mother to brooklyn, new york.

this was about the time harper had started high school. being in a city was a different course for her, and she didn't really make too many friends. a lot of people found her distant and different. upbeat and friendly, but possibly too quirky for them. she kept herself busy with gymnastics and other things. mostly reading and schoolwork. dispite her inability to focus on things in a social setting, harper was talented in school. by her senior year of high school, she had chosen to go into nursing just like her mother. her stepgrandmother's passing hit her hard (one of the few people truly there for harper when she needed it) but she had left harper a rather nice inheritance that harper would use to relocate to boston and attend college.

harper was on her school's gymnastics team and graduated nursing school in her two years. during that time she learned a lot about the world, growing up rather quickly. once she landed a job at an outpatient clinic, she started dealing pills. it was a source of extra income for her and inevitably, it was the downfall of the best relationship she had ever been in. she was young though, and although she was heartbroken, harper went back to school to become a nurse practitioner. she remained where she was, but now was running the pill business she had started now that she was able to prescribe medication. harper has never been a malicious person, but she has done what she needed to in order to get by.

2015 was the year that everything changed. jack winston came back into her life (her ex that she had been dumped by because of her pill dealings), and a few months of fuzzy memories and a whirlwind romance had everything jumbled. at the end of july, her stepfather had been murdered brutally in his brooklyn home. only a few weeks after his death, officers informed harper and her mother that they needed to leave boston and possibly the country. her stepfather had been involved with mob dealings, owing them an immense amount of money and they wanted to be paid. harper had no choice but to say goodbye to her life in boston, her boyfriend, and her two dogs (whom she loves more than anything). entering witness protection, harper chose the name winnie after her beloved wonder years idol, and the generic last name of maxwell. they were moved to canada to start a new life, where harper was miserable. the benefit was that she grew closer to her mother, learning information about her biological father that she had never known. and just when she was starting to come to terms with living a life as a brand new person in a new place, harper and her mom were told their lives were no longer in danger and they could return to boston and brooklyn (respectively) if they pleased. however, their new identities should be kept for their own safety.

winnie "harper" maxwell has been in boston for a week, trying to scrounge up what is left of her life. it's been a month and a half since she has had contact with anyone she used to know, and she's unsure if she should even reach out to anyone with the fear that she will be viewed as the woman that just upped and left with no good reason. harper is a survivor, though. and she's pretty sure boston isn't going to even know what hit 'em.
